The ladder to success was once a steep and sacred climb. Currently, we’ve torn the bottom rung out and are basing success merely on holding onto this baton - thereby withholding progress. Is that true success - or false security. Pa
The bottom’s up, the top’s down and the race is to the safe. Play it safe. And sound. No need to scale new heights or rise to noble occasions, we’ll lower the standards and extend our adolescent malaise by blindfolding the world with a billfold. That’s not a fold* in which I place much faith. And sound? What is the sound of money…
Flattery**. We flatter ourselves by possessing something somebody else wants. The intrinsic value may be diminutive - but the social implications are marketable, desirable and inflatable. This creates a new disorder: Pennies-Envy! Are deep-pockets just another booby-trap?
Poverty is a pitfall - a pothole on the road to prosperity. But greed is a detour - a deviation from progression’s destiny. Accumulation has become more important than advancement - money more valued than maturity. We no longer respect wisdom, but look to wealth for answers that are not necessarily becoming it’s disposition. Money is a poor mentor…
For lack of maturity the ways of our world are becoming moribund. What money lacks in meaning it makes up for in material. And it is a great arbiter of appurtenances - but a poor magistrate of maturity. Money allows us to accumulate - not actualize.
We need to replace this lowest rung on the ladder to success and set the bar higher (as in noble example - not ignoble extortion). These rungs represent realizations that rise to epiphanies and advance civilization. If greed is allowed to stand in the way long enough… it will become the way, the index of our inanity and imminent demise. And that’s a poor way for a civilized world to act - abbreviated actualization not only curtails maturity, it drops the curtain on successful stages of progress.
